It is estimated that by 2012 almost 15 million people in this country will be clinically diagnosed as being obese. Weight problems are a direct consequence of eating and drinking too many calories and using up too few.
Excess weight is a leading cause of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer, all adding costs to the NHS.
Weight problems already cost the wider economy in the region of £16 billion, which may well rise to £50 billion per year by 2050.

We want to meet these challenges HEAD ON to create the fittest, healthiest generation of young people in this country’s history.
GET IN is an exciting new partnership uniting the sports and physical activity industry, 160 top businesses and three outstanding social enterprises.
GET IN will harness the power of sport and volunteering to transform the aspirations and enhance the fitness and diet of nearly half a million children.
100,000 children in deprived areas will receive a free healthy breakfast 5 days a week.
40,000 volunteers will be recruited and supported to train children in healthy activity 3 times a week.
360,000 children will be trained in new sports and undertake 30 minutes of physical activity 3 times a week.
100 Community Games will harness sport and business volunteering to boost the confidence & increase the attainment of 32,000 young people.
100 businesses will collectively invest £5m in new school sport and volunteering programmes, significantly enhancing schools’ capacity.
GET IN is a scalable, sustainable programme which will create a National Grid of Social Impact using a blended model of public and private funding.
